New executive director SFL per 1 June

The Sustainable Finance Lab board has appointed Brenda Kramer as the new executive director of the Sustainable Finance Lab. As of 1 June 2024, she will succeed Rens van Tilburg.

Brenda Kramer brings an international network and extensive experience in the public and private sectors. She worked as a Senior Economist for the Ministry of Finance, the European Commission and De Nederlandsche Bank. Since 2016, she has worked for pension provider PGGM as a Senior Advisor on Sustainable Finance. In addition, between 2018 and 2022 she represented the Dutch pension sector in the EU Expert Group for Sustainable Finance and the European Platform for Sustainable Finance.

In her new position as SFL director, Brenda will focus on internationalisation and a recalibration of the strategic position of the SFL. Brenda:

“The combination of high-quality relevant research and the SFL-network of leading professors is very strong. As a think tank, SFL is thus perfectly positioned to constructively challenger policymakers, politicians, and finance professionals in the Netherlands and internationally.”

Rens van Tilburg will hand over his duties after more than thirteen years – since SFL’s founding. Thanks to Rens, the SFL grew into a serious challenger to the status quo. He was one of the first to publish on climate risks. Together with green leaders from the Dutch pension world, The Sustainable Pension Investments Lab was founded. In recent years, SFL has developed ideas for climate in monetary policy that the ECB is now putting into practice. Rens:

“I am very happy with Brenda as my successor. She brings a unique mix of knowledge and experience to the entire field of SFL, from the euro crisis to green taxonomy.”

SFL co-chairman Peter Blom:

“We are extremely grateful to Rens for his relentless energy, his persuasiveness, and his strong focus on the content in recent years. He put SFL on the map. We are pleased that in Brenda we have found a director who can take SFL to the next phase. Her knowledge and experience provide countless starting points for this.”

Brenda will start as director on 1 June. If you would like to highlight this news in your media, for example through an interview with Brenda Kramer and the SFL board, you can contact Dieuwertje Bosma (sustainablefinancelab@uu.nl/ 06-51702460).
