Professor Schenk initiated M&A research and teaching while at Erasmus University’s Rotterdam School of Management. Held professorships at Groningen, Rotterdam, Tilburg, and Amsterdam in the Netherlands, and at Cambridge, Warwick, Beijing and Strasbourg abroad. Also taught business ethics, corporate governance and industrial policy issues. Accepted an invitation to help set up the economics department at Utrecht in 2002. Spent eight years as an independent crown-appointed member of the Social and Economic Council of the Netherlands. Was invited by Dutch parliament to lead the parliamentary study of the origins of the great financial crisis in 2009.
