Clemens Kool obtained his PhD in 1989 at Erasmus University Rotterdam. During his career, he held academic positions at several universities and worked at national and international policy institutions. He has published widely in national and international academic journals, has been an advisor to national and regional Dutch government authorities as well as to various financial institutions, and actively participates in societal (economic) debates.

His research interests focus on monetary policy, European integration, the interaction between the real and financial sector, and the design of a sustainable financial system. His research is typically empirical and policy-oriented.
