A different perspective
This paper discusses how the current proposals for a European Capital Markets Union (now referred to as the Savings and Investments Union or SIU) prioritize financial sector interests over the real economy.
Authors Brenda Kramer (Sustainable Finance Lab), Prof. Dr. Dirk Bezemer (University of Groningen), Prof. Dr. Mark Sanders (Maastricht University) contend that the current approach relies too heavily on scaling up existing systems or mimicking the American model, which emphasizes transaction volumes rather than long-term, patient capital. This paper was written for Parlement & Wetenschap as advice to the House of Representatives. The paper proposes a four-pillar strategy for a restructured financial landscape focused on public goals, financial stability, and inclusive development.
