Lu Zhang is a postdoctoral researcher at the Sustainable Finance Lab and University of Groningen.
Lu holds a PhD in economics from Utrecht University, and has been a visiting researcher at De Nederlandse Bank (Dutch central bank) and the Bank of England. She taught courses on intermediate and advanced finance and supervised a number of bachelor and master theses. Her research explores the interactions between the financial sector and the real economy. In particular, she focuses the shift in the composition of bank lending in recent decades, away from nonfinancial business and towards real estate asset markets, and its implication for economic growth and financial (in)stability. Her work has been published in Economic Inquiry, Cambridge Journal of Regions, Economy and Society, Empirical Economics and contributed to important policy debates in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
