Vacancy experienced and all-round macroeconomist for the Sustainable Finance Lab (32-38 hours per week)

Money for a fair and sustainable society

Money can be a wonderful tool to make society fairer and more sustainable. Unfortunately, it is now often driving rich and poor apart and driving climate change and biodiversity loss. The academic thinktank Sustainable Finance Lab (SFL) wants to put money back at the service of people and the planet.

Over the past 12 years, SFL has demonstrated its ability to bridge science and practice, mobilizing major players to direct money flows towards a fair and sustainable economy. We do this by conducting research, launching new ideas and organising discussions about this with all parties involved, from financial institutions, science and non-governmental organizations to regulators, politicians and ministries. We work on virtually all financial topics: from the private financial sector and monetary policy to fiscal policy and the international financial architecture.

Position and profile

Due to the growth of our business, we are looking for an experienced colleague with a macroeconomic background to lead projects in areas such as financial sector stability, inflation, the housing market and inequality. We are looking for a colleague who also likes to think along about climate and biodiversity risks.

Your immediate working circle are the five colleagues of the SFL team. The location is the Utrecht School of Economics. In addition, you work together with the SFL members, most of whom are professors at various Dutch universities, and you have a lot of contact with financial institutions, regulators, scientists, ministries, non-governmental organisations, politicians and the Dutch and international press.

In this position you work independently and you are responsible for fundraising for your projects and supervising colleagues. You initiate new projects in consultation with the SFL members and your colleagues.

In addition to being a researcher, you are also a bridge builder, able to understand the positions of everyone involved and to bridge between different viewpoints. You are able to clearly and convincingly explain the SFL positions both in writing and verbally.

Mastery of the English language is a must, command of the Dutch language is an advantage.
